Now I’m not trying to line myself up alongside the tourist office or any of the other brilliant organisations that let you know what’s going on - like VieMag ( https://vie-mag.com/ ).  But I thought it might be useful to list the events that happen in Brittany over the summer.  And, you know what? I’m just going to go ahead and list them!

Tour de France

The famous bike race which starts on 27th May 2025 and ends on the 27th July 2025 - It comes closest to Guernegroach when stage 7 arrives in Mur de Bretagne on the 11th July 2025 having left from Saint Malo.  The other Brittany stage, is stage 8 from Saint Méen le Grand to Laval on the 12th July 2025.

Vieilles Charues Festival

This the big music festival around here and it takes place in Carhaix-Plouguer about 38km from me.

From the 17th to 20th July and here’s a sort of program for you - though I’m not sure how fixed it is at the time of writing but sounds pretty good to me.

  • Thursday 17 July. alanis morissette • damiano david • nina kraviz • tiakola. ...

  • Friday 18 July. gesaffelstein • julien doré • laylow • macklemore. ...

  • Saturday 19 July. amelie lens • aurora • luidji • martin solveig • stereophonics. ...

  • Sunday 20 July. damso • ofenbach • sex pistols ft. Frank Carter

Son et Lumière de Bon Repos

30th July, 1st, 2nd, 6th, 8th and 9th August 2025

Approximately 20km away this is an amazing sound and light spectacular show which happens every year (and has done for the last 34years!) and a lot of the walk on parts are taken by local people.  It lasts for 2 hours with 350 extras and 25 equestrians on an 8000m2 stage, music, fireworks and a lightshow all on the backdrop of the Bon-Repos Abbey.

There’s an entire village of food stalls and bits and pieces too. It really is quite magical.

Le Kreizh Breizh Elites

2nd to the 4th August 2025

ladies 28th August 2025

Another bike race! Not quite as prestigious as the Tour de France a sort of trampoline for young hopefuls as far as I can gather.  150 racers of more than 20 nationalities.  Since Kreizh Breizh means Central Brittany that is exactly where we are! and I have known this race go through the nearby village of Ploërdut but I can’t seem to find the itinerary just yet but I do know that its based in Gourin (30km away) and it looks like the first stage is ending up there.

Fête de l’Andouille

24th August 2025

Guemené-sur-Scorff (8km away) is home to famous sausage the "Andouille" a tripe sausage of some international renoun. Its the occasion for everyone to party and particularly to celebrate being Breton - lots of Breton music and dancing in breton costumes and of course the tripe sausage meal if you want it, its not obligatory but people do come from all over the world for this and its a great day out.

Fête de la Crêpe

26th and 27th July 2025

This in Gourin - Chateau de Tronjoly (30km away) The bretons just love their crêpes (which I hesitate to call pancakes because they’re not) but just in case anyone was wondering - its a very thin pancake that gets all sorts of lovely things put on it either savoury or sweet. Breton music and dancing and competitions and of course eating and drinking.

54e édition Festival Interceltique de Lorient

1-10 August 2025, Les Cousins d’Amérique

A glorious meet up of celtic people and their arts - fantastic “ambiance”.
